Leader Adjunct Instructor - CDL Refresher & Review Courses

Instructors will be responsible for training current CDL holders who are required to take a “refresher” course because they have been off the road for an extended time or have not secured CDL employment since acquiring their license. This is an opportunity to put your driving skills to good use teaching highly motivated and disciplined students while still being able to return home each night.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Train student drivers on how to perform safety inspections of the truck and what warning signs to be aware of.

  • Teach functional skills of driving such as performing turns, curves, braking, etc.

  • Ensure drivers have a basic knowledge of dealing with intersections, urban/rural sections, highways, bridge underpasses, etc.

  • Assure that the drivers know when and how to perform upgrades and downgrades.

  • Evaluate student drivers during range and road driving days.

  • Maintain student paperwork according to department specifications and submit in a timely manner to the office upon students' completion.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma/GED Certificate

  • Three years truck driving experience with a clean MVR for the past 7 years

  • Current commercial drivers license and medical card.

  • Previous Instruction experience is required. Applicants must also be able to interact with students of varied backgrounds and experience with encouragement and professionalism.

  • Preference may be given to applicants who have completed a formal truck driving training program at an accredited private or public postsecondary vocational-technical school, or an equivalent military, company sponsored, or apprenticeship program.

  • Must have three years of in-field, full-time work experience within the past seven years. Preference may be given to applicants who have teaching experience in postsecondary education.

Refresher classes are held on Saturday’s between the hours of 8am – 5pm.
