Full-time enrollment is not required.  Students are not required to maintain a "B" average but must make satisfactory academic progress per school policy.

Requirements:

  1. Must be a Georgia resident for at least one (1) year prior to the quarter of attendance.

  2. Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) of eligible permanent resident alien status.

  3. Must not be in default or owe a refund on any Title IV or state financial aid program.

  4. Not be convicted of a felony drug offense within 90 days prior to the quarter of attendance.

  5. Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements.  Click www.sss.gov for more info.

HOPE Scholarship

Associate Degree Programs

Recent Georgia High School graduates

Students who enroll in a degree program at West Central Technical College and receive the HOPE scholarship must meet the same qualifications as a student seeking a degree at any of Georgia's public or private colleges or universities.  To be eligible as a first-year student, students must have earned a "B" average and completed the core curriculum from high school.

Every year in June, each high school guidance officer provides the HOPE Program with the academic transcripts of the graduating students and GSFC determines the students' academic eligibility for the HOPE Scholarship. You can view GSFC’s database to check if you made the Final HOPE Scholar list or call GSFC at (770) 724-9000 or toll-free in Georgia at 1-800-505-GSFC. This is the same database used by colleges to verify your HOPE eligibility once you have applied for HOPE. Click here for Final Hope Scholar list.

Any degree credit attempted since the student's high school graduation will be used to determine the student's eligibility for the scholarship at a West Central Technical College. Please complete a HOPE Scholar Evaluation form and submit to the Registrar’s Office if you have attempted any degree credit since High School. Click here for the HOPE Scholar Evaluation form.

Non-Traditional HOPE Scholarship

Students who graduated from high school prior to 1993 or were not academically eligible immediately after high school graduation may be eligible for a HOPE scholarship for a degree program after attempting 45, 90, or 135 degree credit quarter hours of study.  Students must also have maintained a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please complete a HOPE Scholar Evaluation form and submit to the Registrar’s Office if you would like to be evaluated as a Non-Traditional HOPE Scholar.

  • Meet Georgia's residency requirements.

  • Maintained the 3.0 cumulative grade point average after the quarter in which the student attempted 45, 90, or 135 hours of degree credit.  (Note: All attempted degree credit and course work converted to degree credit after high school graduation will be used to determine eligibility).

  • Not have earned a baccalaureate (four-year) degree or have attempted more than 190 degree credit quarter hours.

The HOPE Grant/Scholarship will cover 100% of mandatory fees (tuition, registration, activity and insurance) per quarter plus provide a $100 book voucher for students registered for 6 or more credit hours and a $50 book voucher for those registered for 5 of less credit hours.
