West Central Technical College welcomed the addition of intercollegiate sports and our new coaching staff Winter Quarter of 2008.

Men's Basketball season closed March 15th. Our athletes were known in the league for their teamwork and comradery with the other schools. The first season closed with West Central Technical College winning one game against Griffin Technical College. We will begin recruiting players for the 2009 West Central Golden Knights beginning in Fall Quarter and try-outs will be held in October, 2008. Students must be in at least six hours to practice during Fall Quarter and ten hours during Game Season or Winter Quarter of 2009. The Lady Knights Volleyball Team kicked off their inaugural season Saturday April 5, 2008, winning both matches against Coosa Valley Technical College and Northwestern Technical College. Also, please remember that admission is free to our students, staff, and the public, so we invite you to come cheer our team on.

Golden Knights Mascot Origin:

Requests for the West Central Technical College Mascot were taken during the Summer Quarter of 2007 from Faulty, Staff, and students. While everyone was creative, many submissions were already being used by Professional, Collegiate, and High School Teams in our state or nearby states. Students Laura Rivera and Kimberly Foster (who did not know each other before joining the Student Activities Council this fall) independently submitted “Knights” as their choice for our mascot. As the only reoccurring submissions and due to the process of elimination, the Knights were born. At a planning conference in September, our senior staff provided creative influence to the mascot by adding the “Golden” aspect. We share this mascot with no one in the state of Georgia.
