JORDAN WINS FIRST WCTC ‘SPIRIT OF GIVING’ AWARD

A Carrollton businessman walked away from last week’s “Black Tie & Boots” concert at West Central Technical College with the WCTC Foundation’s first-ever “Spirit of Giving” award, recognizing his generosity over the past year.

Ronnie Jordan, owner of Jordan Truck Sales, was presented the award by President Skip Sullivan and Vice President of Institutional Advancement Dawn Cook, who oversees day-to-day operations of the Foundation.

For a moment after his name was called, it appeared Jordan wasn’t going on-stage to accept the large crystal eagle. When he did rise, Jordan was visibly moved.

“I really don’t feel like this is something I deserve,” Jordan said later. “I haven’t done anything that should be unusual or out of the ordinary. If more people would give, they would realize that they get far more out of it than they put in.”

Jordan is a recognized leader in the commercial truck sales industry, having founded JTS in 1987 and grown it into one of the top used commercial truck dealers in the nation, employing 40 people at locations in Carrollton and Ringgold. Jordan serves on the Board of Directors for the Used Truck Association and the Advisory Council for the Truck Blue Book. He is also a Founding Director of McIntosh Commercial Bank in Carrollton.

Jordan serves as chairman of the West Central Tech Commercial Truck Driving advisory committee, and made donations to that program of a single-axle truck and a refrigerated trailer in 2008.

“Our College could not ask for a better partner and supporter that Ronnie Jordan,” Sullivan said. “He understands what we do. His support has focused on the commercial truck driving program because that is where he has expertise, but I think if Ronnie were a dentist, he would support our dental hygiene program. If he were an accountant, he would support accounting. Ronnie understands how our College enables people to step up and take control of their lives by getting an education.”

Cook said the fact that Jordan was present at the fund-raising concert shows his support.

“Ronnie is a perennial sponsor of Black Tie & Boots,” she said. “Jordan Truck Sales has been a platinum-level sponsor for four years running. Ronnie is one of those folks you can call on and you know before you call that he will do whatever he can to help the College.”

While Jordan’s award was the first, Cook said the WCTC Foundation intends to present the award annual at Black Tie & Boots. She said the award will be given to an individual or group who, over the past year, has made a significant contribution to the quality and availability of technical education in the community through support of West Central Technical College.

“I would just challenge other folks in the community to support the College and the Foundation,” Jordan said. The work they are doing impacts real people in our community in a real way. It changes lives for the better.”

West Central Technical College, with campuses in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas and Haralson counties, offers over 90 associate degree, diploma and technical certificate programs of study.
