Greg Nelson has been named Vice President of Administrative Services, and Peter Snell has been named Vice President of Economic Development. Both will begin in their new positions July 1.
Nelson comes to West Central from the V.P. of Administrative Services post at East Central Technical College in Fitzgerald.
“Greg brings great financial acumen together with a contagious excitement about technical education,” President Dr. Skip Sullivan said. “His experience both at our central system office and at East Central Technical College will serve him well in his new role.”
At West Central Tech, Nelson will oversee the business office, bookstores, facilities, human resources and information services departments.
Before serving at East Central, Nelson worked seven years for the Technical College System of Georgia as assistant budget director. He also has experience on the committee staff for the Georgia General Assembly and as an adjunct math instructor at Coosa Valley Technical College in Rome.
“I look forward to putting my skills and experience to work at West Central Tech,” Nelson said. “West Central is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic technical colleges in Georgia. I’m ready to get started making it even better.”
Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kennesaw State University and is working toward a master’s in business administration. He holds a government accounting certificate from the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Snell, who comes to West Central from the same position at Swainsboro Technical College, begins his service at the College’s Murphy Campus July 1.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Peter into the West Central family,” Sullivan said. “We look forward to putting his economic development experience to use on our team.”
As V.P. of Economic Development, Snell has oversight of the College’s continuing education and corporate training departments.
Snell is no stranger to the West Georgia area, having started his career in education as a math teacher at Paulding County High School. He worked in private industry for several years as a corporate trainer and in other positions before joining the staff of Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta as an instructor and, later, acting director of continuing education. He was named to the Swainsboro post in 2007.
“I am very excited to be home again in one of the fastest growing regions of the country and helping facilitate economic development through West Central Technical College,” Snell said. “The Technical College System of Georgia has so much to offer and Dr. Skip Sullivan is among its most dynamic leaders. He has an optimistic and realistic vision for the future at West Central Tech.”
Snell holds a master’s degree in public administration from Kennesaw State University and expects to finish a doctorate of education from the University of Georgia this year.
West Central Technical College, with campuses in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas and Haralson counties, offers over 90 associate degree, diploma and technical certificate programs of study. A unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, West Central last year served over 10,000 students including credit enrollment, adult education, ESL classes, continuing education and corporate training. West Central is one of the fastest-growing technical colleges in Georgia.
