PROMOTIONS YIELD TWO NEW VICE-PRESIDENTS

West Central Technical College President Dr. Skip Sullivan has announced the promotion of two directors to vice president.

Dawn Cook has been promoted to Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and Dr. Richard Robinson has been promoted to Vice President of Adult Education. Both took their new titles effective July 1.

Cook has been an employee of the College since 1995. She was named Interim Director of Institutional Advancement in April 2007 and to the permanent post last October.

Cook’s responsibilities include the College’s marketing, public relations, legislative affairs and board relations and the management of West Central Technical College’s Foundation and conference centers.

“Dawn has proven herself to be the kind of leader needed in this role,” Sullivan said. “Under her direction, the College’s Foundation, marketing and public relations functions have displayed new vitality.”

In the seven years prior to her appointment as interim director, Cook served as Executive Assistant to the President. Cook holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of West Georgia and last year was named to Georgia Trend’s “40 Under 40” list – people the magazine calls “Georgia’s best and brightest.”  She is a nominee for Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Georgia Class of 2009.

“I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to serving our College, community and students in this capacity,” Cook said.

Cook is immediate past chairman of the Haralson County Chamber of Commerce, has served as Team Captain for the American Red Cross Hero Fund Drive, and was selected as one of the 2006 “Career Women of the Year” in Carroll County. She and her family reside in Carrollton.

Dr. Richard Robinson has been serving as Director of Adult Education since March 2007. In that role he oversees GED preparation classes and testing for adult learners in the College’s four-county service area. He will continue these duties as Vice President.

“Richard has proven himself a very capable leader in Adult Education,” Sullivan said. “His statewide experience in the field continues to be an asset to our College, one of the top five GED-producers in Georgia.”

Prior to his arrival at West Central, Robinson served six years as a regional field coordinator for what was then the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (now the Technical College System of Georgia). In that role, he coordinated the adult literacy partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Resources for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. He also performed periodic analyses of adult literacy programs throughout the state.

“We have made tremendous strides organizing our department to meet the overall objectives of the technical college,” Robinson said. “[TCSG] Commissioner [Ron] Jackson has set aggressive goals for statewide growth in our System. We at West Central are well-positioned to meet our goals for both production of graduates and transitioning those GED graduates to technical college programs."

Robinson holds a doctorate in education from Argosy University. He is a board member for literacy programs in Carroll (LIFT), Coweta (CLICK) and Haralson (LAMP) counties. Robinson and his family reside in Marietta.
