U.S. DEPT. OF EDUCATION AWARDS NONCOMPETITIVE CONGRESSIONALLY-DIRECTED GRANT TO WEST CENTRAL TECHNICAL COLLEGE FOR AIR CONDITIONING TECHNOLOGY TRAINING – COWETA CAMPUS

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a grant in the amount of $143,449 to West Central Technical College for Air Conditioning Technology training on its Coweta Campus.

The grant monies will be used to purchase equipment for two new technical certificates of credit to be offered at the campus housed in the Central Educational Center.

The new programs – which will begin in summer quarter 2008 – will be Air Conditioning Electrical Technician and Air Conditioning Technician Assistant. Equipment to be purchased includes trainers for electricity concepts, air conditioning control systems and basic electrical machines, various HVAC supplies, and 14 sets of hand tools

The federal grant will furnish all the equipment needs of these two programs, and the equipment selected will meet all industry standards, officials said.

“We are very pleased at the hard work of Congressman Lynn Westmoreland to make this funding available for these high-demand programs,” President Dr. Skip Sullivan said. “West Central Technical College is constantly looking for ways to bring diverse and specialized technical training into our communities. It is through the help of Congressman Westmoreland and other partners that we can meet the educational demands of a 21st century global economy.”

The Air Conditioning Electrical Technician certificate program prepares students in the air conditioning area of study to acquire competencies in electricity related to installation, service, and maintenance of electrical systems. Students may enter day and evening classes at the beginning of any quarter as openings become available. Graduates may find employment as service technician helpers, in plant maintenance or in sales.

The Air Conditioning Technician Assistant certificate of credit prepares a student to become an Air Conditioning Technician Assistant. Students may enter day and evening classes at the beginning of any quarter as openings become available. Graduates also may find employment as service technician helpers, in plant maintenance or in sales.
